Why is the building painted purple?

The building was donated by a formerly homeless person who had gone on to be successful. He requested the purple color to honor the shelter which had originally helped him to get his life together.

Will you pick up my donation?

Due to limited resources, we are only able to pick up furniture which is in good clean sellable condition. When we pick up furniture we will also take up to two boxes of other items. If you are able to bring your donations to the store, that is even better. For more information on donations, go to our donations page

Why won’t you take mattresses?

We are not able to sanitize them in compliance with health codes.

Can I donate clothes and other items directly to the residents of the Samaritan Inn?

We ask that all donations of clothes and household items be brought directly to the thrift store. Residents of the Samaritan Inn are able to select items from the store using vouchers that are provided by the Samaritan Inn.

How do Samaritan Inn residents benefit from the store?

All profits from sales go directly to the Samaritan Inn for the benefit of our residents. Please visit the Samaritan Inn website to learn more about the programs for the residents. The store has in the past provided about 11% of the entire operating budget of the Samaritan Inn. In addition the residents are given store vouchers that allow them to shop at the store to get exactly what they need and want.

Are donations of items to the store tax-deductible?

Yes, the Samaritan Inn is a charitable organization and all gifts are tax deductible. This may benefit you if you itemize your deductions on your tax return. We will give you a receipt for the items. You must determine the value of the items you donate yourself.

Are the workers at the store paid staff or volunteers.

Both. There are paid staff that work full time at the store. But many of the workers are volunteers who donate their time for the benefit of the Samaritan Inn. If you are interested in volunteering, go to this website.
